Abstract

A Modern Approach to Bidimensional Technique

by Migliorati Marco

A Modern Approach to Bidimensional Technique The Bidimensional Technique, conceived by Prof. Gianelly of Boston University over forty years ago, is a treatment strategy designed to facilitate the control of the torque of the maxillary incisors during their retraction and the mesialization of the posterior dental elements of the mandibular arch through sliding mechanics. A distinctive feature of this technique is the use of a .018 "x .022" stainless steel working archwire associated with brackets with .018 "slots on the incisors and .022" slots on the other teeth. This archwire completely fills the slot of the incisors by precisely controlling the inclination and is, on the contrary, undersized compared to the slots of the posterior teeth, within which it therefore slides easily. The use of well-coded treatment protocols divided into distinct phases, associated with diagnostic principles and the formulation of the treatment plan with a well-identified logical basis, are the basis of the high predictability of orthodontic treatments carried out by applying the Bidimensional "philosophy", which has nevertheless continued to evolve over the years by integrating the use of more effective anchorage management systems such as TADs, drawing on more advanced tools for the analysis of smile aesthetics such as Digital Smile Design and getting to influence with its own distinctive principles also the biomechanical planning of orthodontic treatments conducted by means of modern therapeutic devices such as clear aligners. During this cases discussion session, the most advanced evolutions of the Bidimensional Technique will therefore be presented, giving the participants the opportunity to see its fundamental principles applied to a wide spectrum of malocclusions, discuss its clinical strategies and share their cases with the speakers.
